Masjid Noor ul-Islam

Daily activities of the Masjid Noor ul-Islam are under the management of BMECC's Masjid Committee, and Imam Jamee is the current Imam of the masjid. Adhan and Iqamah's time at Masjid Noor ul-Islam can be found on the left column of this website as well as at the "My Masjid" app on the mobile device.

Masjid offers daily prayers, Friday congregation, religious lectures, weekly brother and sister halaqah, and also houses the Noor ul-Islam Academy classes. Masjid facilitates about 400 prayer spaces at the main musallah and 250 at the additional multi-purpose hall. We are currently working on adding Phase IV of masjid construction project.

Sermons on Friday congregation are normally offered in Burmese and Arabic languages but occasionally we have guest Imam who delivers Sermons in English.

We also have Jama'at groups from other cities and states throughout the country, visiting the masjid and the community.

Masjid Noor ul-Islam is central to the Burmese community in Fort Wayne. Masjid Noor ul-Islam is the first masjid built in the United States by the Burmese community. Masjid also welcomes visitors of other faith groups, individuals, and observers. Masjid is considered a holy place but the doors are opened to those who like to get a better understanding of Islam and the Muslim community. Masjid Noor ul-Islam Construction Project

In early 2011, approximately four acres of undeveloped land was purchased at the south side of the city where a large number of Burmese Muslims live. Since the land was undeveloped, brothers and sisters in the community got together and put their time and their own hands in the cleanup effort for several months. On the other side, the Board of Directors worked closely with licensed professional architects for the Masjid design in detail. During the process, Advisory Board members, community elders, and religious experts were approached and obtained their inputs and suggestions.

The Masjid, Inshallah once completed entirely, will have over 10,000 sq.ft. in area which can accommodate approximately 1,000 brothers and sisters at a time. The masjid will have three potions, Main Building at the center, Left Wing for educational classes, and the Right-Wing for sisters and faith-based community activities. The total construction cost for the entire project is estimated to be about 1.5 million dollars.

Since this is a long-term project, the Board of Directors seeks a short-term plan to facilitate a place for daily prayers within reasonably less financial burden. Directors looked at several avenues in this struggle which include buying an existing building, portable building, and building a temporary facility, etc. However, after several serious discussions, the Board came to the conclusion that the masjid construction project is to be carried out in four phases.

Allahumdullah, the phase I was completed in 2015 and the first Masjid in the Burmese community to construct a new masjid in over three decades.

Project of phase I and II of the Masjid by the end of 2016

We have also completed phase II in 2016 and phase III in 2019 Allahumdullillah. We also have modified the initial design to reduce the cost and added a new entrance.

Currently, we are working toward finishing up phases IV of the project, and Inshallah, we hope to complete it by the end of 2022.
